Ava Marie
OK, I am going to write down what happened with Ava (my Niece, Mandy's daughter, who will be 3 Friday).
Thursday evening, she was playing at my parents house. They have a deck in the back that goes to the top of the house. Ava was going up the stairs and fell off, landing on her head on the concrete patio. She was knocked unconscious. Mom immediately called 911 and the ambulance came. She was taken to St. John's and they did a scan (I don't remember which kind) and found bleeding and swelling in her brain and a cracked skull, along with a big goose egg all on the right side of her head. They decided she needed to be flown to Peoria Children's Hospital ICU where there was a pediatric neurosurgeon who could take over. She did come around in the ER at St. John's and recognized her mom and dad, but they had to put her back under to tube her and get her on the chopper. She had another scan when she got to Peoria and they said that it appeared there was no more bleeding, so that was a good thing. They decided to keep her under observation in the ICU. She had a fitful night.
Friday...had another scan. They said there was definitely no more bleeding and she could be moved to intermediate care. The blood that was there was not a large enough amount for her to need surgery of any kind. They said the body will just reabsorb it as she heals.
Saturday...she stayed in intermediate care. She did her best to ignore the doctors. She doesn't have much to say to them! She got to have the collar taken off from her neck, so Mandy thought she was resting better with that gone.
Sunday...we went to see her this morning and she perked up a bit when we all came in. Aunt Megan flew home to see her and she was pretty excited. She needed Megan to paint her toenails. Peyton and Adam had picked out some nail polish for her this morning, so it was perfect! The neurosurgeon was in while we were there. He said she looks good. They will move her to a normal room today, which means no more monitors, tubes, everything she hates! They will do another scan tomorrow and are talking about her going home tomorrow or Tuesday. They said she will have to take it easy. No roughness, running, etc....she needs to be calm. We all got a kick out of that. Poor Mandy! Ava has never been calm. She prefers to run everywhere, she is a little bruiser, has no fear. So that may be a challenge!!
Thanks everyone for your prayers. We all appreciate them and are anxious for Ava to get home!

Hey Shell----Thank God for answered prayers. Thanks for posting. Mandy will have her hands full, but with your family's support and everyone else, she will make it thru. So glad to hear Megan got home and Ava got her nails done. Nothing makes a girl feel better than feeling pretty!!! Take care and let us know if we can do anything. Love ya. Lori.
