We're having a day.
Oh my gosh, can you believe how cold it is??!! Peyton's school is cancelled today. We got the phone call at 6:30. Matt got home from the firehouse. He said he didn't sleep much, but I am not sure what happened. He went to work for the electricians. I hope they are working inside a heated building today! He will be ready for a HOT dinner...maybe I'll take a page from Mindy's book and make some soup! He instructed me to not leave the house. Which means I missed my Weight Watchers meeting and Thursday morning Mall Walk. I guess we will try to go tomorrow! I think our heater has run non-stop since I woke up. That will be fun when we get the bill! Our power has flickered a couple times. Hopefully it will stay on. But we do have a generator, so in theory, I can turn it on and have heat that way. I guess it's days like today that make me realize I should have listened better when Matt gave me the generator instructions! He has it all written down somewhere! More likely I would break his not leaving the house rule and go visit Mindy or Mary!
Poor Kalee had another rough night last night. (Which also means I had a rough night. Isn't parenting fun!!) She was just coughing so much. She probably slept about 4-5 hours. We ended up sitting in the living room. When she is sitting up, she does better. It's nights like that that I wish I had Matt's crazy ability to sleep anywhere under any conditions. I guess the firehouse has made him this way. You figure out how to go back to sleep quickly when you are woken with every alarm in the city all night long!
I had to cut Peyton's fingernails today. That is the most stressful parenting responsibility with her. We always waited until she was asleep to do it when she was a baby, so it wasn't a fight and she never knew it was done. We are realizing now that that was a huge mistake!! Now that she is older, she is terrified of having it done. She cried, screams, just pretty much throws a fit EVERY TIME. It's ridiculous. She usually ends up in her room in time out for awhile before she will decide that she will allow us to cut them. Then we finally get it done and she says, well that wasn't too bad. Jeez. With Kalee, we do while she's awake and it is never a big deal...Live and learn.
I cleaned the girls' rooms yesterday. That's right, just another reason to use my sweeper! But anyway, under Peyton's bed, I found a sippy cup. Then I found another one down in her covers. Now I truly believe there are few things more disgusting than curdled milk. And these two cups were pretty bad. I can't tell you how many sippy cups I have simply thrown away because I can't stand to open them. When you can see that the cup has milk in it, but you shake it and it doesn't move...that's a good sign to me to throw it out and spend 5 more dollars on new ones. If Matt is home, this is one of the things I usually make him do. It falls under my puke and blood category. Things I don't deal with. Though I have also found that when there is puke or blood involved, Matt is at the firehouse. So I am forced to deal with it. A fun fact about being married to a fireman...If it's going to go wrong, it will go wrong when your husband is at the firehouse and can't leave to help you. The dog will die, the heater will go out, your daughter will split her head open on an end table...you name it, it will happen and you will have no help!
Oh my god, all Hell just broke loose. I'm not sure what just happened, but we're having a day. I have two girls who are being ridiculous! Kalee is so tired she is just crying and crying, and Peyton keeps throwing fits. I'd say 10:10 is a good time for naps for all. Especially Mommy! AAHHHHH!!!

love the blog!!! it's nice to know people are going through the same thing as me!!! Take it easy today, Shelly!
ReplyDeleteI forgot that little ones like Peyton actually get upset when school gets canceled. I can promise you that my 22 little 5th graders were NOT upset that they didn't have to see me today! And I did a great happy dance last night when I got a phone call! We now have a 5 day weekend because we were scheduled for no school on Friday or Monday.... Woo Hoo!!
ReplyDeleteIf your power goes out you know you can come play Wii with me! If mine goes out we'll go to Mom's. If they all go out we will go to a nearby hotel, rent a room, and sit in the hot tub! I always have a plan! :)
